POSITION DESCRIPTION
PURCHASING MANAGER
Res is a privately held, ISO/TS 16949 certified manufacturer of stamped metal components, assemblies and value added services. The company was founded in 1907 and has a solid reputation in the markets it serves (automotive, clean-technology industries, agriculture, turf-care, commercial lighting, and commercial cookware). Core competencies include: innovative equipment, tool and process design; medium to high volume progressive die stamping supported by welding, next level assembly, and a wide range of outside services.

The Purchasing Manager will lead the procurement function, managing Res’ procurement team and related information systems to support short- and long-term internal and external customer needs. This individual will develop and manage strategic partnerships with suppliers to provide the best overall value proposition for purchased goods and services in support of Res’ mixed model of stamp-and-ship product along with highly-engineered, value-added assemblies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop associates
- Coach and develop the purchasing team to support Res’ strategic and operational goals
- Coach associates and provide personal development opportunities to challenge and motivate team
- Maintain open and continuous communication with team to raise the awareness of company- wide priorities, initiatives, and the team’s progress toward specific goals
Problem Solving
- Assess current systems and available data to determine if/where changes are necessary to allow purchasing to successfully support Res’ financial and strategic growth plans
- Manage integrity of all procurement data in the AS400 system and in other purchasing databases
- Utilize strong negotiation skills for cost reduction and holding suppliers accountable for detailed cost justification
- Work with Manufacturing Planning and Control Manager to develop systems to maintain tight control over cost of inventory
Plan for the Future
- Lead strategic procurement activities that include the development of sourcing strategies, supplier portfolio, negotiation strategies, and supplier improvement systems
- Manage supplier selection, supplier evaluation, and purchase order management for all commercial aspects of equipment acquisition, stamping tool acquisition, all products and services related to manufactured product, and facilities maintenance supplies, contracts, and leases
- Create and manage relationships with key suppliers that foster continuous improvement of quality, cost and delivery.
- Develop network of potential suppliers to proactively deal with customer requests for timely quotes, strategic sales opportunities, and new market development
- Provide input regarding material, technology, and supply trends that may impact the strategic direction of the business
- Coordinate with the Manufacturing Planning and Control Manager to create and manage procurement strategies to meet business goals
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree, prefer business or engineering
- Seven years progressive, procurement experience in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated adeptness in negotiations
- Successful experience leading cost containment/reduction projects
- Direct experience with systems improvement/system implementation
- History of managing $10M+ with strategic account relationships
